After leaving Mexico City, Pedro and I decided to visit Merida, Mexico. Home to many US & Canadian expats, Merida is a little gem sitting in north-central Yucatan peninsula. Once home to major wealth due to the hemp industry, its sprinkled with beautiful mansions from its hay day in the early 1900s.
The people are warm and hospitable, the food has its own Yucatan flavors and twists, and the only thing hotter, is its weather!
It has a distinctively slower pace than the other cities we visited in Mexico. But full of wonderful people, lots of culture, and pride in its uniquely Mayan history. Worth a visit but we would highly recommend to do so in the cooler winter months!
