Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Pedro and I decided to end our time in Mexico with an almost month long stay in Playa del Carmen.  We had one and a half weeks, interrupted by a quick trip to Lisbon (more to come on that later), followed by us being joined by my brother Curtis, his husband Jonathan, and our mother Ms Nancy for a week.

The “family” week was a great time as we hadn’t all been together since Pedro and I started our world-wide travels last June.  We also celebrated Ms Nancy’s birthday (as she would say “age is just a number, and mine is unlisted!”) and Curtis and Jonathans honeymoon (they were married this past October but we missed the wedding, so it was great to celebrate with both of them.)

This was the first time for all of us to Playa and with this group of world travelers, that is an unusual thing.  We were all so impressed with this very chic Mexican beach town.  It had numerous fine dining and shopping options yet you could also find beach bars that had a Key West / island vibe.  Dress code casual but you would never feel out of place dressing it up either.

One trend we have hopefully conveyed in our blog is the hospitality of the Mexican people.  They are genuinely nice, hospitable, and friendly people. They have a relaxed attitude but also eager to serve and assist.  Not sure when the last time a taxi driver sang happy birthday to you, but it happened not once but twice with our mom.  The people are what really sets this country apart from so many others.

The weather was perfect.  Warm (not hot) days and cooler evenings.  We had a few windy days but generally just a nice, light breeze to keep you comfy when out-and-about in the beautiful, sun-filled days.

An absolutely must on your next visit to Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or any of the surrounding Yucatan area, is the Cirque du Soleil show Joya.  How can you beat a Cirque show?  How about a Crique show with a 5-star dinner!  It was truly spectacular!

Happy (belated) Birthday to one of our greatest joys, Ms Nancy!  Happy Birthday Mom!  We truly enjoy every moment we get so spend with you.

And a big congratulations and continued happiness to my brother Curtis and his husband Jonathan!  We are so happy you found each other and felt privileged to share your honeymoon with you!
