Lisbon and Porto

🇺🇸 We’re now about 6 weeks into living in our adopted country and we haven’t had a single regret.  In fact, each day seems to confirm for us our decision to move to Portugal was the right one.
🇵🇹 Estamos agora com cerca de 6 semanas de vida em nosso país adotivo e não sentimos um único arrependimento. De facto, cada dia parece confirmar para nós que a nossa decisão de mudar para Portugal foi a decisão certa.

🇺🇸 At the risk of repeating myself, the people are what really stand out in our minds.  Yes, there is 300+ days per year of sunshine.  Yes, the weather is never too hot (minus a few days here and there), never too cold (for too long), and never too rainy (we’ve had none, but winter is coming), the prices are probably the best of any European capital, and certainly any Western European capital, there are LOTS of things to do (even Pedro hasn’t been able to put a respectable dent in the number of fine restaurants and rooftop bars we have visited) and English is spoken just about everywhere (ok, maybe that isn’t a good thing for someone trying to learn to speak Portuguese) but there are LOTS of things to love. However, its the helpfulness and attitude of the Portuguese people that really stand out to us.  They are polite, friendly, happy, and authentic.  The few rude or impolite people we have encountered have all turned out to be….tourist.
🇵🇹 Correndo o risco de me repetir, as pessoas são o que realmente se destacam em nossas mentes. Sim, há mais de 300 dias por ano de sol. Sim, o tempo nunca é muito quente (menos alguns dias aqui e ali), nunca muito frio (por muito tempo), e nunca muito chuvoso (não tivemos nenhum, mas o inverno está chegando), os preços são provavelmente os melhores de qualquer capital européia, e certamente de qualquer capital da Europa Ocidental, há MUITAS coisas para fazer (até mesmo Pedro não conseguiu dar um tom respeitável no número de ótimos restaurantes e bares nos telhados que visitamos) e o inglês é falado apenas sobre todos os lugares (ok, talvez isso não seja uma coisa boa para alguém tentando aprender a falar Português), mas há muitas coisas para amar. No entanto, é a utilidade e atitude dos portugueses que realmente se destacam para nós. Eles são educados, simpáticos, felizes e autênticos. As poucas pessoas grosseiras ou indelicadas que encontramos se tornaram…..turísticas.

🇺🇸 So yes, if you can’t tell, we are LOVING LISBOA & PORTUGAL!  ❤️ 🇵🇹

🇺🇸 One of the few things that neither experience, wealth nor influence can change is a birthday, and I had another one this past week!  😱 😂
🇵🇹 Uma das poucas coisas que nenhuma experiência, riqueza ou influência pode mudar é um aniversário, e eu tive outro na semana passada!  😱 😂

🇺🇸 Pedro once again surprised me with a weekend packed full of events.
🇵🇹 Pedro mais uma vez me surpreendeu com um final de semana repleto de eventos.

🇺🇸 It started here is Lisbon on Thursday with a tour of Cristo Rei (Christ statue) and a private helicopter tour in our home city!  Lisbon is beautiful from every angle but wow do you really get a sense of its size and coastline character from both of these views.  Absolutely beautiful.
🇵🇹 Tudo começou aqui é Lisboa na quinta-feira com uma visita ao Cristo Rei (estátua de Cristo) e um passeio de helicóptero privado em nossa cidade natal! Lisboa é bonita de todos os ângulos, mas wow você realmente tem uma noção do seu tamanho e caráter de costa a partir de ambas as vistas. Absolutamente lindo.

🇺🇸 On Friday, we took the train north for the weekend to visit Portugal’s second largest city, Porto!  Porto sits on the Douro river which weaves slowly throughout the city centre, setting a beautiful photographic scene with its six bridge crossings, and hundreds of restaurants and cafes dotted all along its shores.  It is probably most famous for its wine exports, including the name sake Port wine.  It definitely has a more slower pace, even with its large number of tourist, and an even more historic feel about it.  Squares, cathedrals, hills and of course its river all mark this lovely city.  We did a city tour and some casual exploring on our own along with an amazing dinner on the opposite side of the city centre that provided spectacular views of the city at night.
🇵🇹 Na sexta-feira, pegamos o trem para o norte para o fim de semana para visitar a segunda maior cidade de Portugal, o Porto! Porto fica no rio Douro, que passa lentamente pelo centro da cidade, estabelecendo uma bela cidade fotográfica com seis travessias de pontes e centenas de restaurantes e cafés espalhados ao longo das suas margens. É provavelmente mais famosa pelas suas exportações de vinho, incluindo o nome de vinho do Porto. Definitivamente tem um ritmo mais lento, mesmo com seu grande número de turistas, e uma sensação ainda mais histórica sobre isso. Praças, catedrais, colinas e, claro, seu rio marcam esta linda cidade. Nós fizemos uma excursão de cidade e algum casual explorando em nosso próprio partido junto com um jantar surpreendente no lado oposto do centro de cidade que proporcionou visões espetaculares da cidade à noite.

🇺🇸 On Saturday, Pedro surprised me yet again with a private yacht tour on the River Douro.  Sitting on the fly bridge of a large boat, sipping champagne and wine, listening to some nice chill music, watching the city slowly go by, especially with the person you love, makes getting a year older not seem so bad.
🇵🇹 No sábado, o Pedro surpreendeu-me mais uma vez com um passeio de barco privado no rio Douro. Sentado na ponte de um barco grande, tomando champanhe e vinho, ouvindo uma música agradável, observando a cidade passar lentamente, especialmente com a pessoa que você ama, faz com que ficar um ano mais velho não pareça tão ruim.

🇺🇸 We intend to stay home for the next several months, with the exception of a quick weekend trip south to the Algarve, the well known beach areas of Portugal.  More pictures and posts once we do.
🇵🇹 Pretendemos ficar em casa durante os próximos meses, com a excepção de uma rápida viagem de fim-de-semana para sul, para o Algarve, as conhecidas áreas de praia de Portugal. Mais fotos e postagens, uma vez que fazemos.
