Vienna, Austria

🇺🇸 At the risk of repeating ourselves, one of the most exciting things about moving to Europe was having an entire continent in our backyard that neither of us really knew. We both have visited just about every major US city and many smaller ones as well. And even though each city or state has its own personality, there is a very similar feel to everything inside the US, and even the broader world as globalization continues to expand across the globe. But in Europe, the same two or three hour flight we had previously used to transverse between states, now moves us from one country to the next, one culture to the next, one language to the next. And although Europe has its own similar feel with its pedestrian friendly avenues, waterways and hundreds of years old buildings, each country has its own unique feel, its own personality that feels new to us as we explore its cities, learn its cultures, and interact with its people.

🇵🇹 Correndo o risco de nos repetir, uma das coisas mais interessantes sobre a mudança para a Europa foi ter um continente inteiro em nosso quintal que nenhum de nós realmente conhecia. Nós dois visitamos quase todas as principais cidades dos Estados Unidos e muitas outras menores também. E mesmo que cada cidade ou estado tenha sua própria personalidade, existe uma sensação muito semelhante em tudo dentro dos EUA, e até mesmo no mundo mais amplo, à medida que a globalização continua a se expandir pelo mundo. Mas na Europa, o mesmo vôo de duas ou três horas que havíamos usado anteriormente para atravessar os estados, agora nos leva de um país a outro, de uma cultura para outra, de uma língua para outra. E embora a Europa tenha o seu próprio estilo, com suas avenidas amigáveis para pedestres, vias navegáveis e prédios de centenas de anos, cada país tem uma sensação única, uma personalidade que nos faz sentir à medida que exploramos suas cidades, aprendemos suas culturas e interagimos. com o seu povo.

🇺🇸 We also both love music and have similar tastes in genres. So we decided to join these two efforts and try and visit some of the many wonderful European cities along with some of our favorite musical acts. Such was the opportunity to visit Vienna and to also see Sir Elton John in concert. But first, the city….

🇺🇸 Vienna (Wein) is smaller than many of the other capitals we have so far visited, similar in size to our own Lisboa, but its city center with its ring feels even more compact. It is very easy to navigate even without speaking German (no, neither of us do even to the chagrin of my grandfather were he still alive). And even though we had heard the Austrian’s, and German’s for that matter, are somewhat cold we found quite the opposite during our four night visit.

🇵🇹 Viena (Wein) é menor do que muitas das outras capitais que visitamos até agora, semelhantes em tamanho ao nosso próprio Lisboa, mas o centro da cidade com o seu anel parece ainda mais compacto. É muito fácil de navegar, mesmo sem falar alemão (não, nenhum de nós, mesmo para o desgosto do meu avô, ele ainda estava vivo). E mesmo ouvido que os austríacos e os alemães, serem muito frios encontramos o contrário durante nossa visita de quatro noites.

🇺🇸 The city is beautiful and much like Paris or Barcelona, at every turn is another stunning masterpiece of architecture, but in Vienna its all on a much smaller footprint, easily walkable and mostly focused around its ring. Find the ring and just walk and you are sure to see some of its best sites.

🇵🇹 A cidade é linda e muito parecida com Paris ou Barcelona, em cada turno é outra impressionante obra-prima da arquitetura, mas em Viena é tudo em uma pegada muito menor, fácil de percorrer e principalmente focado em torno de seu anel. Encontre o anel e apenas ande e você tem certeza de ver alguns de seus melhores sites.

🇺🇸 Yes, all of this food is vegan!
🇵🇹 E sim, toda essa comida é vegana!

🇺🇸 As many of you are aware, Elton John is on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour, which is his final tour including 300 nights in almost 200 cities encompassing three years ending in London in December 2020. We both love his music but have never attended a concert. He absolutely did not disappoint. Maybe its just the fact that we know so many of his songs but its hard to imagine any entertainer sitting behind a piano and being so dang entertaining! He was just awesome! His energy was over the top, facial expressions all his own, and the music, both vocally and musically, were spot on. Just perfect. There is a sad moment towards the end as he reminds the crowd that this will be his last performance ever in Vienna and thanking them for their years of support. Such a wonderful entertainer, philanthropist, and overall good guy. His music will certainly live on way beyond his own years.

🇵🇹 Como muitos de vocês sabem, Elton John está em sua turnê “Farewell Yellow Brick Road”, que é sua última turnê incluindo 300 noites em quase 200 cidades, abrangendo três anos terminando em Londres em dezembro de 2020. Nós amamos sua música, mas nunca participou de um concerto. Ele absolutamente não decepcionou. Talvez seja apenas o fato de que conhecemos muitas de suas músicas, mas é difícil imaginar qualquer artista sentado atrás de um piano e ser tão divertido! Ele foi simplesmente fantástico! Sua energia era exagerada, expressões faciais próprias, e a música, vocal e musicalmente, estava no local. Simplesmente perfeito. Há um momento triste para o final, quando ele lembra a multidão que esta será sua última apresentação em Viena e agradece a eles por seus anos de apoio. Tal artista maravilhoso, filantropo e bom rapaz em geral. Sua música certamente viverá muito além de seus próprios anos.

🇺🇸 We also took in the opera RIGOLETTO at the Vienna Opera House which is just a stunning venue. A wonderful last night to wrap up our visit in Vienna.
